The Cruncher wet fly is another variation of the Pheasant tail nymph style of tying. The pattern comprises a long tail (shuck of emerging fly), a pheasant tail body with silver rib, small thorax (peacock herl) and brown hen hackle. It is the ability of the hen hackle to move backwards and forwards when the fly is retrieved that is a critical feature of this pattern.
Please note that the photo shows the 4 flies on both a light and a dark background.
The flies are tied on size 12 Kamasan hooks and are not weighted, hence are best fished with a floating line or intermediate line and fished close to the surface when fish are cruising just below. It is equally successful on small stillwaters as well as larger reservoirs.
There are two versions of the pattern in this 4 x fly set:
Normal pheasant tail body, black head x 2 flies
Dark (melanistic) pheasant tail body, red head x 2 flies
The set is contained in a plastic clear lidded box (that could be used as a fly box). Postage is included in the price.
